Quad-Core AMD Opteron

Today AMD is announcing it’s first 45 nanometer Quad-Core Opteron Server processor, it will require a third less power then the previous generation Opteron and with a larger cash enabling advanced virtualzation capabilities.

The Quad-Core Opteron is optimized for high speed DDR2 memory creating more efficiency with less power in the Data Center for a welcomed decrease in the overall cost of cooling.

Partners HP, IBM, SUN and Cray are shipping servers today with the new Quad-Core AMD Opteron. AMD is the processor provider for Windows Azure cloud services.

Yahoo’s Not 404 Yet

The rumors of Yahoo’s demise have been greatly exaggerated on Techcrunch, BoomTown and Silicon Alley Insider blogs. Yahoo is a public company and if we had a diligent SEC we might learn why these three blogs have been singing from the same him sheet for months.

Yahoo was mismanaged over the past five years, so a YHOO shareholder may see it’s a good thing that all these VP’s are going

Salesforce and Google

Salesforce has expanded their partnership with Google to deliver a new product called Salesforce for Google Apps. Salesforce for Google Apps is a simple combination of Web-based business applications that streamline communication and collaboration with the power to change the way you work.

A Microsoft spokesperson wasn’t impressed, but Google has their foot in the Enterprise door.

Live Maps 6.1

Mark Brown just announce that the latest version of Live Maps is up and ready to go. Coming soon is an upgrade of the Map Control to version 6.1 for developers.

This mornings NYTimes has a nice story about Kevin Lynch and his dream of a Kevincloud. I still have Keven’s business card from Micromedia, but now he’s the chief technology office of Adobe on the verge of launching his dream now called Air.

Keven is realising the dream we had a few years ago for Smart Clients, Billy Hollis at conference after conference would preach the value of the Smart Client running on your desktop and connecting with the web when more data was required. Two years ago I thought we were going to get Smart Client adoption from Amazon and eBay because it would be more secure to use a Client rather then a browser.
